Your first request

Getting a voice talking takes three steps.

  1. Create an account on the sign up page. No card needed for the free plan.
  2. Create an API key in Settings, API keys. Copy it somewhere safe, we only show it once.
  3. Send some text to the speech endpoint with a voice id. You get audio back.

Pick a voice

Every workspace starts with the stock library: forty voices across twelve languages. Try them in the playground, then copy the voice id into your request.

Batch or streaming

  • Batch returns a finished file. Use it for voiceovers, podcasts and anything pre-recorded.
  • Streaming returns audio in small chunks as it is generated. Use it for assistants, support lines and anything conversational.

Keep your key secret

Never ship your API key in a mobile app or browser bundle. Call Flabbergasted from your server, or use short lived tokens for client side playback.

Questions about getting started

Do I need a credit card to start?
No. The free plan includes enough characters to build and test a prototype, no card required.
Which languages do you have SDKs for?
JavaScript, Python and Go are official. Anything that can make an HTTP request works with the REST API.
Where do I find my API key?
In the dashboard under Settings, API keys. Create one per environment so you can revoke them separately.
Can I try voices without writing code?
Yes. The playground in the dashboard lets you type text, switch voices and download the audio.
